Meet the Bunnies of Evermay Farm!
Elmer is the first of the rabbits to call Evermay home. Elmer was owned by an elderly lady who was trying to find homes for many of her animals being she was starting to find it difficult to manage do to her age. He is now elderly himself and his hearing is starting to fail him. He LOVES bananas and his best bun friend is Jack.
Scotty was found in a cage of filth at local animal control compound. Before he even made it to Evermay Farm, he made a trip to the vet. This little guy's teeth were so long his bottom teeth had grown out past his nose, BUT WORSE he could not close his mouth because his top teeth had grown inward in a complete circle, the size of a dime. Rabbit's teeth continually grow called open rooted or erupting. If their jaw is off even slightly this causes teeth to not wear down correctly and trimming regularly is needed. Scotty was neglected to the point that the only way he could eat was to tilt his head and eat side ways. Scotty is adored here at Evermay for his friendly personality despite all he's been through.
Unfortunately Jack’s story is classic, he belonged to a collage student who was unhappy he had claws. Rabbits don’t have retractable claws like cats, they need to be clipped carefully as not to cut into the quick (or the tender part with blood vessels). Jack is a perfect bunny, he simply had an owner who didn’t understand rabbit care. Jack is an adorable and friendly and loves playtime !
This beautiful Rex rabbit came to us as a “surrender." His former owners found him unfriendly and were considering releasing him into the wild. Domesticated pets will not survive and will fall prey if released. Deli is prone to ear infections and has developed Horner’s syndrome. He is a patient and lovable guy.
Sophie came to us with quite the attitude! Sophie is gorgeous but has a tendency to lunge and bite. Sophie is now spade and has bonded with Lil and Lu which has helped her attitude adjust since arriving. All teasing in fun.... we love her.
Coco arrived when his previous life as a middle school class pet ended. Shortly after his arrival Coco under went surgery to have a growth removed from is hind quarters and recovered beautifully. Coco is a very friendly, curious, well adjusted little Rex.
Lil Lika and Lu
These two bunnies have made the rounds. First bought at an auction, then not wanted and given to another family who didn’t want them. Evermay is now there forever home and they will never have to worry about being displaced again. Little Lika, “Lil” was spade shortly after her arrival and plays well with Lu and Sophie.
Her name means Hope, given to her by her sponsor. Esperanza was a surrender, originally in a home with a small child that wasn't treating her with compassion and she was given to another family, then on to us. Esperanza now has her permanent home here at Evermay. She is sweet and gentle. Esperanza's sponsorship is a gift to her sponsors mom, as Esperanza came to us her mom's birthday!
