Our beautiful Bella is a miniature mare, standing about 38 inches. She arrived at Evermay with her pal Hershey. These little horses needed a forever home after their owner could no longer financially care for them.
Both Bella and Hershey show signs of stifle, which is common with smaller ponies.
In May of 2017 Bella underwent surgery at UGA Vet Hospital due to complications with stifle. She was a trooper and pulled through her physical therapy like a champ! THe stifle is no longer a issue, locking up like it used to impairing her ability to walk.
While at UGA it was discovered her liver levels were abnormal and a biopsy was later done. She has damage due to toxins.
It was also discovered that Bella has Cushing's which will be managed through medication. Thankfully to sharp eye of her vet this disease was caught in the very early stages.
Taking in miniature horses is no small task. They require the same care and attention as a full size horse. They need their hooves trimmed, to be groomed and require the same vaccinations and vet care as their full size counter partners. They are adorable but the time and expense should be considered before making your home, their forever home.
Our beautiful Bella was rushed to UGA with liver related issues, sadly Bella lost her fight. RIP November 25, 2019
